Is it Friday yet?

We spend so much of the year wishing time away…. We are always hoping for the end of the week to come and then complain that the year is going by so quickly. I think it is very important when you work full time to make the most of your spare time so weekends I like to do fun things for me…. I am a “responsible adult” too though, so I do use weekends to do uni assignments and housework…. ewwwwwww!!!! But then when Monday comes around  I am again counting down the days till the weekend.

I am sure that we all of those days at work where we sit watching the clock hoping that it is almost 5pm, home time! We become so worried about the clock that we become unmotivated and put off our daily tasks, then when 5pm comes around and we haven’t achieved what we should have for the day we think oh I will just leave it till tomorrow. That is a future Ash problem. Then when tomorrow comes around  we repeat the vicious cycle. Wishing away time is a very negative trait but it is something I think that I have always done.

As a kid

“I wish it was the weekend so I can play sport with my friends”

“I wish it was my birthday so I am a year older”

“I wish it was school holidays”

As a teen

“I wish I was old enough to drive”

“I wish it was school holidays”

“I wish it was prom time”

As an Adult

“Is it 5pm yet?”

“Is it the weekend yet?”

“Is it Christmas break yet?”

Really looking back it seems that I may have wished away my childhood, but that I think is something that we are all guilty of.

I have been reading a lot more about mindful meditation and living in the present I have compiled a list of things to try to be more present.

Tips for Living in the Present

  1. Do one thing at a time, don’t multitask. Do that one thing slowly and precisely. Focus on that one task and how you can best achieve it.
  2. Stop worrying about the past and the future, focus on the now. There is no point worrying about something that has already happened and about something that may never happen. I know this one is a lot easier said then done but try number 3.
  3. If you are finding it hard to focus on the now breathe and do nothing for 5 minutes, nothing at all, don’t think about anything but your breathing, this will help to refocus on the now.
  4. Be present. When you are at work, on a phone call, with a friend, be present with them, don’t be distracted by other things that are happening or stressors in your life.

There is a lot of literature out there about this subject, read it if/when you can and understand it. I challenge you all this week to give them a go. I know I am going to. Let’s see together how we get through it. If you have any other tips, please share them with me. Have a magical day – Ash x

  1. I say this to myself all the time. I spend for 4 days of the week waiting for 3 of them. I’ve gotten better over time, and accepted Thursday into the group. But Mon, Tues & Wed still lack my appreciation. Great post.
